Flickr -- http://www.flickr.com
Now owned by Yahoo, a tremendous resource for images. Many Flickr users have chosen to "protect" their work with a Creative Commons license, and you can browse or search through photos under each type of license Link to the Creative commons search.
NEW FEATURES ON FLICKR!
On March 22, 2007, Flickr rolled out content filtering, allowing Flickr users to flag their images as they upload them and to also set their "viewing" preferences. I'm happy to report that my account has been reviewed as "Safe" by the Flickr staff -- which in the description says I am good at moderating my own content. This is one of 3 filters that can apply to your pictures. The other 2 categories are "Moderate" ( some photos my be considered offensive by some people) and "Restricted" (for photos that are "unsuitable for children, your grandmother or your workmakes"). Flickr content filter also includes 3 categories for your uploads: photos, art/illustration or screenshots. Flickr also now provides a way to only search for "Safe" photos too! You can choose a "safety level" that applies to any site-wide searches you perform while you are logged in and which can be adjusted on a per search basis using the the advanced search page at: http://www.flickr.com/search/advanced/ -- note however, the content filter selections only appear when you are logged into your account.
From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flickr)
''Flickr is a photo sharing website and web services suite, and an online community platform, which is generally considered an early example of a Web 2.0 application. In addition to being a popular Web site for users to share personal photographs, the service is widely used by bloggers as a photo repository. Its popularity has been fueled by its innovative online community tools that allow photos to be tagged and browsed by folksonomic means."
It's about the Tag -- You're it!
You can give your photos a "tag", which is like a keyword. Tags help you find photos which have something in common. You can assign as many tags as you wish to each photo.

World Explorer: http://tagmaps.research.yahoo.com/worldexplorer.php The World Explorer is a new way to explore the world while browsing real users' public photos, using TagMaps. The Explorer is based on photos users upload to the Flickr website. The World Explorer engine analyzes the information tied to the photos (such as location and tags) to find the main "attractions" in each location and in every zoom level and compute their "importance".
